Rebar Calculator
Estimate reinforcement tonnage from concrete volume and the steel ratio of an element — the number you need for pricing and buying before a bar schedule exists.
Calculator
How the calculation works
Steel weight = concrete volume x steel ratio in kg/m3. Indicative ratios: isolated footings 80-100, raft 90-130, columns 120-180, beam-and-block slabs 90-120, flat slabs 120-150 kg/m3. Add 3-7% for cutting waste and laps.
Frequently asked questions
What steel ratio is typical for a Saudi villa?
Taken across the whole structure, 90-120 kg of steel per cubic metre of concrete is the usual band. The structural design decides the final figure, so treat this as a pre-tender estimate only.
Why is rebar waste higher than for other materials?
Because bars are supplied in fixed 12 m lengths and every cut leaves an offcut. A properly prepared bar bending schedule usually pulls waste down from around 7% to about 3%.
Does the tonnage include tie wire, chairs and spacers?
No. Tie wire runs at roughly 10 kg per tonne of steel, and chairs and spacers are priced separately. Add them as their own lines in the bill of quantities.
Should I price by ratio or by bar schedule?
By ratio for feasibility and early budgets, by bar schedule for a tender price. The gap between the two is exactly the risk you carry when you bid off a ratio alone.
