How the calculation works
Net volume = length x width x thickness (or height). Add 3-5% waste to cover formwork tolerances, spillage and losses in the pump line. Loads = total volume divided by mixer capacity, normally 7-10 m3 per truck in the Saudi market.
Frequently asked questions
How much waste should I allow on a concrete order?
Between 3% for regular elements in tight formwork and 5% for complicated shapes or long pump runs. A figure consistently above 5% points at leaking formwork or habitual over-ordering, not at the supplier.
How do I calculate concrete for columns?
Multiply the column cross-section by its height and by the number of columns: twenty columns at 0.3 x 0.7 m and 3 m high give 0.3 x 0.7 x 3 x 20 = 12.6 m3 net, before waste.
Does the result include blinding and screed?
No. Blinding, screed and any lean-concrete working slab are separate items. Measure each one by its own area and thickness and run it through the calculator again.
How do I convert cubic metres into cement, sand and aggregate?
Only for site-mixed concrete, and only from the approved mix design. Ready-mix is bought by the cubic metre delivered, which is how almost all structural concrete in Saudi Arabia is supplied.
