Definition
A compacted aggregate layer beneath the asphalt that spreads traffic loads onto the subgrade, its thickness following the design traffic volume and the nature of the subgrade below it.
Example
A 20 cm base course to Ministry of Transport specification.
Where it is used
Roads, yards and car parks.
